A Word from the Author
This story came to fruition over many years of hearing stories from children who needed a compassionate ear regarding why they were late to school. I chose to provide them with compassionate responsibility and discretion as they navigated difficult emotions in what they felt were difficult situations. We both learned about the importance of a positive and healthy teacher - student - family relationship. Events happen to families from time to time and it is often best to give a student who is very responsible, never late, and obviously concerned, the benefit of the doubt when they are being truthful about their life experiences.
